AMCAT Important Quantitative Questions with Detailed Explanation | AMCAT Preparation

AMCAT DETAILS comes again with another compilation of Quantitative questions with detailed explanation which will be beneficial for students in terms of their preparation for AMCAT.

Question: The product of two numbers is 9375 and the quotient, when the larger one is divided by the smaller, is 15. The sum of the numbers is:

a) 380

b) 395

c) 400

d) 425

Answer: (c)

Detailed Explanation:

Let the larger number be x
and let the smaller number be y
According to question
x*y=9375          -------1
x/y=15               -------2

Multiplying equation 1 and equation 2 we get,
x^2=140625
=> x=375
Now, just put the value of x in equation 2
then we get y= 25
Since sum of number must be x+y
375+25= 400

Therefore the answer is : (c)

Question: A cycled from P to Q at 10 kmph and returned at the rate of 9 kmph. B cycled both ways at 12 kmph. In the whole journey B took 10 minutes less than A. Find the distance between P and Q.

a) 3.75

b) 32.5

c) 37.5

d) 3.25

Answer: (a)

Detailed Solution:

We know that Time = Distance/Speed
Let Time taken by A is Ta and time taken by B is Tb.

Let D be the Distance.

Then,
Ta = (D/10 + D/9) = (19D/90) hrs
Tb = (D/12 + D/12) = (D/6) hrs

Tb = (Ta - 10 minutes)
     = (Ta - (1/6)hours)

=> D/6 = (19D/90) - (1/6)
=> 1/6 = (19D-15D)/90
=> 15 = 4D
=> D = 3.75 km

Therefore, the answer is a.
